What is PM Magenta?

PM Magenta books cover PM levels 1, 2 and 3. The Level 1 books help students to master a growing number of high-frequency words, with deliberate text/image match design. After reading the level 2 and level 2/3 books, students should be able to recognise 25–30 high-frequency words and be confident with simple sentence constructions.

Teaching information is included in every inside front cover, including key high-frequency words, language structure, picture discussion, concepts about print and literal and inferential comprehension questions.

PM Magenta texts are classified as SIMPLE according to the Australian Curriculum National Literacy Learning Progression.

Explore the balanced reader categories for PM Magenta:

• A focus on understanding letter-sound relationships (phoneme-grapheme correspondences) and initial letter sounds (consonants m, s, p, t and short vowel sounds a, i).
• Ongoing links between letters and their sounds to blend two and three phonemes together to practise simple VC (vowel-consonant) and CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words.
• Establishing concepts about print.
• The practising of onset and rime.
