The PM Sapphire books and cards provide a variety of more sophisticated topics for discussion. Ideal for small-group teaching, the chapter books explore themes such as friendship, bullying and adjusting to a new schools, as well as fantasy and historical fiction. The non-fiction texts offer a range of texts and text types, including expositions, explanations, information reports, procedures, recounts, descriptions and discussions.

PM Sapphire texts are classified as HIGHLY COMPLEX according to the Australian Curriculum National Literacy Learning Progression.

• Using etymological knowledge to decode unfamiliar English words (glacier, phenomena ).
• Very low illustration support for decoding.

• More sophisticated use of predominantly compound and complex sentences.
