Mya Skirving studied a Bachelor of Education at Newcastle University and a Master of Science - Science Education, Curtin University. Subsequently she has taught Level 2 Science and Head of year in schools in Sydney, before relocating to Perth. She currently teaches year 11 and 12 ATAR Biology and has been a WACE marker for SCSA since 2013. At Perth Modern School she has held the position of science curriculum coordinator/programing role for the duration and I set up the senior Biology course three times for three different syllabuses.She had the privilege of teaching 3 students awarded with our state’s subject exhibition certificate in 2015, 2017, 2018. Along with several certificates of distinction in this subject area. Mya has also worked with the Teacher Advocate for Department of Ed WA. Role involved educating/enticing university students to seek a career in teaching.
Anne Disney is a Physics and Chemistry teacher at Knox Grammar School, with over 25 years’ experience in the New South Wales Independent and Northern Territory Public Education Systems. She was a member of the ACARA Physics Advisory Group during the development of the most recent National Curriculum and is an experienced author of Chemistry resources. Anne was an examination marker and moderator for both Physics and Chemistry whilst teaching in the NT and has held various educational leadership roles in the NT and NSW.
Florence has five years of experience in boys’ and girls’ schools in Queensland, teaching physics, chemistry, and junior science. Before pursuing a career in education, Florence trained as a university medalling chemical engineer at the University of Queensland. This background gives her a unique appreciation of the secondary science curriculum, its place in the STEM learning continuum, and its translation to real world understanding and application. Florence currently teaches at All Hallows’ School and holds a middle leadership position in digital pedagogy.
Dr Celia McNeilly is a scientist and educator with expertise in initiatives to increase Australian First Nations students’ engagement and achievement in science. Celia has held roles at ACARA, the University of Melbourne, Queensland Department of Education and CSIRO where she has worked with First Nations education experts in the selection and development of education resources that represent Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and perspectives in culturally safe and sensitive ways.
