Kate Thompson is an experienced educator who is currently the Stage 6 Advisor at the NSW Department of Education. She has worked as Head Teacher, Teaching and Learning for the past 10 years. Kate also lectures in Education at UNSW and is currently the Chief Examiner for the Society and Culture HSC exam. She delivers high quality professional learning to teachers across NSW and has edited and co-authored a range of other HSIE texts. Kate is passionate about high quality professional learning, online learning, quality teaching and effective assessment.
Marshall Leaver taught Society and Culture and International Studies at Monte Sant' Angelo Mercy College, North Sydney from 1981 to 2016. During his career at Monte he held the leadership roles of Head of HSIE, Head of Year 12, CAS Coordinator (IB Service program) and Head of Biamunga and Community Outreach. He is currently serving on the Elders Advisory Group at Monte. Marshall has served as a Committee and Executive member of the Society and Culture Association since late 1980s and is very involved in professional development, publications and governance.
Nicole Martirena is a passionate Society and Culture teacher and Deputy Principal. Nicole has served on the Society and Culture Teachers Association both as a committee member and as secretary. She has delivered numerous presentations at teacher professional development days and currently lectures at the Australian Catholic University in Humanities pedagogy and Society and Culture.
Maxine has always held a passion for sociology. Her deep empathy for people and societies and cultures is reflected in her teaching subjects, Textiles and Design and Society and Culture. She has taught Society and Culture since the first syllabus was published and has served on the NSW Society and Culture Association for more than 10 years developing resources to assist students and teachers. Her commitment to sharing knowledge has been formally recognised with the attainment of a NSW Quality teaching award in 2009 and an Outstanding Professional Service Award in 2014.
